Story of UltraBasso

Kilimanjaro 5895m in 2014

I have a versatile background from many sports during my childhood. At the age of two, I started cross country skiing competitions and later came running, track and field, orienteering, snowboarding, and mountain biking. I spent 15 years of my life around Finland in contests until the army started, and I moved from the middle of Finland to Helsinki city.

After that, having 20 years on/off training and injuries in addition to studying and work life, I am now ready to focus more on trail running. From spring 2020, I have trained progressively more and started to focus on avoiding injuries and be capable to participate in longer-distance events. I completed the first ultra-marathon 66km NUTS Ylläs-Pallas in July 2021.

My main target is to get ITRA points enough to finish the UTMB CCC 100km race someday… but to be realistic in my goal I am going to get involved in BUFF Trail Tour Finland 2022 first. It consists series of seven trail run races in Finland. You can find my racing calendar here.

Welcome to follow my journey to UTMB. I’ll post my training status regularly and write reports about the races. I’m giving some tips and tricks of my learnings how to avoid injuries and keep going every day. And in addition to all this, I advise the best routes around Helsinki city.

My friends call me Basso, but now I am the UltraBasso.
